We have had a great planting week here at the farm with lots of seed and plants going into the soil. We have had to rely on our companionate farmers for relief with a vegetable supply and they have had a lean spring too! Unfortunately the asparagus crop was a failure this year along with the early gardens of the season. But don't give up hope yet as the sun is out and the soil is drying up! The birds are chirping and the frogs are croaking along for another great summer and fall. See you all soon! Dan:)

DANJO FARMS Friday, May 7th, 2010

from the desk of Dan Nelson

 Hey Everyone;

Hope this spring has been filled with cleaning up the yard, mowing the grass, planting flowers and getting ready for another great year. Here at Danjo Farms we have been extremely busy planting in the greenhouses, seeding the gardens and fertilizing the orchards and berries. We have lots of plants to go out in the gardens - cabbage, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, and peppers. We have been seeding radishes, spinach, carrots, potatoes, Swiss chard, leeks and rhubarb.

 We have had 20 baby piglets, 300 chicks and 100 turkey pullets this spring at the farm. Two pairs of Canadian geese have hatched eight goslings which swim the two ponds daily. Our female Chocolate Labrador had 9 puppies in February of which we still have 4. the air at night is starting to fill with fire fly's swarming across the lawn. It's quite magical! Our bees are busy with the first dandelion crop making honey and brood.

 Our On-Farm Country Store will open soon with jams, jellies, pickles, honey, fresh chick, pork and beef from our farm and other local producers from Missouri. We will start our CSA farmshare program on the 13th through the 15th of May this year. We have had a record number of members new and old this season. Here is the new line-up for drop points.

Thursday - Ashland Farmers Market / Ashland, MO / 4pm to 7pm

Friday - Danjo Farms / Moberly, MO / by appointment

Saturday - Danjo Farms / Moberly, MO / by appointment

Saturday - Cafe Berlin / Columbia, MO / 10th and Park St. / 9 am to noon

Great thanks to all of you that support and contribute to the success of our small, sustainable, family farm.  Together we can grow great food, join together to secure our community and have families that are healthy and strong. See you soon friends!
