Cold and wet spring conditions did not allow for the bees to pollinate the trees. Plus, the hard summer heat made what apple we will have small and scalded. Another risk that we take in working with mother nature. Yet cantaloupes and watermelons are still plentiful. The summer heat hurt the production of fall crops also. We will keep you posted. Winter CSA shares are now available to members only this week. Ask me about the great deal for signing up early! Thanks everyone for your support for those who have already signed up! Peace. Although this did not stop the damage incurred during the hot blazing weather for the past three weeks. We lost a lot of head ground on the fall crops especially the winter squash and pumpkin crops. Apples had a slow start and pollination was down plus now they are scalding in the sun and heat. Produce will be more scarce the next few weeks as we see the affects from the heat wave hit our tables. Peace.Dan:)

So is the need for bringing your cooler to the CSA drop point until this passes. Lots of good fresh produce available but keep in mind we do not let our produce set in the heat after picking. We cool the produce down and let the heat transpire out of the produce. Then we store this until we bring the product to you in a cool room. This do not mean we have the most prefect produce. Some items might be a little bruised or bumped or have a spot on it - naturally grown and farm raised. This is what the program is intended to be. We cannot make it anything but what it is - local, nutritious and imperfect. We try our best to serve you with the product that is grown and harvested this week. This means we are subject to what is growing and available. With the in pending heat that will be with us for the next 6 - 8 weeks be sure to more your items to a cooler or refrigerator immediately. As we do not spray, fumigate or wax our produce, it will not keep like its contemporaries from the grocery stores that is. Peace. Things are growing readily and proving to be do well! Lots of chicken this week with 95 new fryers butchered. Remember this is a program of what is grown out during a season and given to you on the weekly basis as we pick the crops available. Most weeks our hands are tied with the realization of what is in the fields. We plan with the best intentions to provide you with top quality, fresh chemical-free produce. Spoilage is apart of the equation with no waxing, fumigation, gassing or spraying of vegetables to keep them shelf stable as do the grocery stores. Peace. Dan:)
